The family living here is the longest continuing line (formerly called Udale) living in the same house in Ravenstonedale Parish. In our possession is a letter written in 1774 giving Alice Udale special admittance from the Manor of Ravenstonedale to one cattlegate in a common field, called Whasper, for a rent of eightpence. John's parents, Robert William Jackson and Dorothy Elizabeth Airey, were the first couple to be married in Newbiggin Methodist Chapel.
