Ravenstonedale - Probably the best parish in the world

The creation of the Embroidery Panels
These pages record the creation of the embroidery panels for the Ravenstonedale Parish Millennium project.

The project involves the creation of 4 embroidered panels to mark the millennium in the parish of Ravenstonedale. Each panel has a distinct theme related to the parish and a secondary seasonal theme. Each panel is approximately 1 metre high.

Panel 1 Winter : Historical Buildings
Panel 2 Spring : Flora and Fauna
Panel 3 Summer : Leisure and Industry
Panel 4 : Autumn : Occupations through Time

Children attending the School on January 1st 2000 were invited to write their names and choose their favourite colour. Embroidered copies of these signatures in the chosen colours are included on the boundaries of the panels.

The intention is that the panels will be framed and one kept in each of the 4 current places of worship in the parish. Periodically the panels will be exchanged between the chapels. The project is due to be completed by November 2000. The village hall is booked for 3rd, 4th and 5th of November for a first display of the panels.

Panel 1 (winter) featuring some of the buildings within the parish is adorned for the first time with the central representation of the Howgills. The group are shown here examining progress on Panel 2 (spring) which features examples of the Flora and Fauna in the parish.
