Ravenstonedale - Probably the best parish in the world
The annual harvest auction
The annual auction of harvest produce was held in our Newbiggin-on-Lune public hall on the evening of Monday 6th October 2003. The stage was well adorned with masses of produce donated by parishioners for the occasion.

Everyone played their part, bidding generously for cabbages, cucumbers, carrots, fruit and preservatives. Items could often have been purchased cheaper on the High Street but that was not the point of the evening which raised lots of money for St Oswald's church and the Bishop's Fund for the Hungry.

Everyone enjoyed a delicious potato pie supper with second helpings the norm. Apple pie and cream followed, again more than we could eat. Left-overs in the form of several apple pies and cream were auctioned off for a good cause.

Michael MG wielded the auctioneer's hammer all evening, a stirling achievement. Michael was ably assisted by Charles and William who must have walked miles dishing out the fruit and veg to successful bidders. All 3 needed resuscitating with several pints of beer when the auction finished.

Just one of many successful events held in the parish this year - most went unrecorded.
