Ravenstonedale Parish Council
A message from Cumbria Constabulary 19th
December 2005
The telephone number for contacting Cumbria Police for non-emergencies
has changed.
The new number is 0845 33 00 247
The aim is to relieve pressure on the 999 system.
The public should only dial 999 when:
there is a threat of violence;
a serious crime is in progress;
a suspect is nearby;
there is a risk of serious damage to property;
a serious accident has happened.
If people call 999 with a non-emergency matter it could stop real
emergency callers from getting through.
The public are also encouraged to use direct dial numbers when they
are known. The most common ones are given in the phone book.
All calls will be charged at standard local rates.
This new number is part of a package aimed at improving our response
to the public. This will be the simplest way for anyone to contact
us when it is not an emergency. It will be the same number for everyone
across the County.
The deaf or hard of hearing can contact Cumbria Constabulary via
Typetalk, call 18001 followed by 33 00 247.
