Declarations of Interest
There were no declarations of personal or prejudicial interest in any item on the agenda.
Minutes of the Meeting held on Thursday 11th January 2007 had been circulated and were signed by the Chairman as a correct record.
Children’s Playgrounds
It was reported that grant applications are currently pending with BBC “Breathing Places” and Friends of the Lake District for the Ravenstonedale Nature Reserve and Awards for All for the Newbiggin-on-Lune site. With existing funds it is proposed to make a start on both sites as soon as the weather improves.
Clerk reported that he had attended the inaugural Meeting of the Eden District Play Partnership, 17th January. The objective of the partnership is to prepare a bid to the Big Lottery Fund for £200,000 of funding for children’s play in Eden. The bid is expected to be made in September 2007. (Probably too late to be of use to Ravenstonedale).

A685 Highway Safety
The Chairman had attended a meeting with representatives of Orton and Tebay parish Councils and District Councillor Margaret Wilcox. Cllr Wilcox had written to County Councillor Tim Stoddard & Highways. The authorities are aware that problems exist but most incidents are the result of bad driving. Residents are encouraged to report incidents to the Clerk.
Neighbourhood Forum Meeting “SAFER ROADS” Brough 26th February
Local Government White Paper
The Chairman & Clerk had attended a presentation organised by CALC at Newton Rigg to explain the alternatives for future local government in Cumbria. Cllr Stoddard explained the County Council’s commitment to a unitary authority covering all aspects of local government. This would result in savings by reducing the number of councillors, offices and staff. A decision by Government is expected in March 2007.
