Minutes of the Meeting held on Thursday 9th February 2006
in Ravenstonedale High Chapel Room

Declarations of Interest
There were no declarations of personal or prejudicial interest in any agenda item.

Minutes of the Meeting held on Thursday 12th January 2006 had been circulated.
Resolved that the minutes be signed by the Chairman as a correct record

Public Participation
There were no contributions from members of the public

Children’s Playgrounds
Newbiggin-on-Lune – A meeting has been arranged between the Chairman, Clerk and Landlords Agent to agree on terms for a lease. The Landlord has previously declared his agreement in principle.
A donation of £10 towards the playground fund was received from Wendy Nicholson.
Estimates for works to be carried out prior to the installation of play equipment at Ravenstonedale have been received. Works include reinstatement of the beckside wall, erection of a safety barrier alongside the beck, removal of some trees and clearance of undergrowth. It will also be necessary to improve the access path and create a ramp to the bowling green level to facilitate access by wheelchairs, pushchairs, etc. Applications for grant aid towards the costs are now being processed.

Ravenstonedale Parish Council Website
Clerk reported that the parish council website, Ravenstonedale.org/parish council should be on line within a few days.

Winter 2006 Newsletter
The winter 2005-2006 Newsletter was shared among councillors for distribution to every household in the parish. Distribution lists had been provided.

Suggestions for Venue for Ravenstonedale Meetings when High Chapel Closes
Notice had been received that the High Chapel is to close at the end of April and will no longer be available for meetings.
The Public Room is not available throughout the year due to other users.
Cllr Mirrey is to enquire about the possibility of using the School room. The alternative may be to meet in Newbiggin.

Highways
Clerk reported on items which had been reported to Highway Authority and explained the system of tracing the progress of reported items via the internet at Cumbria Highways.

Grasscutting
Mr A Kirby had offered to continue cutting the grass at the same price as last year.
Everyone expressed satisfaction at his service.
Resolved that Mr A Kirby continue to cut the village grass.
A request was received for a salt bin at the top of Newbiggin village near the telephone exchange. Request also for reinstatement of former toilet signs pointing to Kings Head. Clerk to action.

Appleby New Fair Committee Meeting Minutes
A copy of a letter from Mr D George, Eden District Council had been forwarded from the New Fair Committee, explaining the District Council’s policy on expenditure on clearing up after the Fair. This was to clarify any misunderstanding caused by a confusing article in the local press.
