Art in Ravenstonedale
Residential art classes are organised by David & Caroline of
the Scar Art Gallery. Participants enjoy expert tuition within the
tranquil surrounds of this wonderful part of Cumbria. When art classes are running, participants can be seen scattered around the village transferring local scenes to paper and canvas.

There is a disproportionately large number of painters, both professional
and amateur in the two villages of Ravenstonedale and its near neighbour
Newbiggin-on-Lune. Could this be due in part to the special qualities
of light and clean air that we enjoy? Set between the Lake District
and Yorkshire Dales national parks these beautiful villages lend
themselves to the quiet activities of art lovers from around the
world.
In times past Edward
Jeffrey, a very accomplished Landscape painter and illustrator
of the 'Toby Twirl' children's books, published 1946 - 1958, lived
in Ravenstonedale.
